The following is an extension of a statement from our Health & Safety document
regarding our declared approach to reduction of impact to the environment from
materials or conditions arrising as a result of demolition.
Our normal method of work is to de-construct buidings so that we may recover
materials where possible. We assess each job in four areas and within these
we detail particular points for scrutiny and attention:-
Verify that building to be demolished are not subject to preservation orders & that there are no Bats, Trees and other species that need protective measures either by safe transfer or boundary sheilding.
Seek out the presence of hazardous materials & the possible safety risk to people or the environment & dispose of these via safe & registered agencies. This includes materials such as complessed gasses, chemicals, asbestos, PCB's, used hypodermic needles, rodent contamination, pidgeon faeces, contaminated ground, pernicious weeds etc..
Identify reusable materials & means of recovery and recycling. This
includes the following:-
| Concrete. |
Crush/Sreen to size or pulverise on site, where requested, eg. for use as specific sized road stone or hardcore to size required
| Bricks, Tiles, Slates, Setts. |
The percentage recovered varies from job to job and is dependent on condition, dismantling, contamination, sorting and cleaning.
| Timber. |
Reclaim sound clean wood as found, or de-nail and size reduce for reuse.
| Metals. |
Separation of copper, steel, reinforcement bars, cables, fittings, for recycling.
Identify the correct disposal means and registration requirements.
